Description
Marc Marquez, the Moto GP Champion 2017, is one of the most successful MotoGP™ racers of all time since his debut in 2013. Born in Catalonia, Spain in 1993 and riding for team Repsol Honda, Marquez is one of four riders to win world championships in three different categories. He had a rocky start to the 2017 season with multiple setbacks including crashes in Argentina and France, followed by a disappointing 6th-place finish at Mugello.
Fortunes then changed in Marc’s favour with wins in Germany and the Czech Republic. However he narrowly lost out to Andrea Dovizioso in Austria, and later suffered a rare engine failure at Silverstone in the UK. Marquez and Dovizioso would continue to battle it out for the rest of the 2017 season, with Marc claiming wins at Misano and Aragón. He was beaten again by Dovizioso in Japan during a last-lap battle, but Marquez claimed victory in Australia just one week later.
Unfortunately, Marc missed out sealing the title in Malaysia, once again losing to Dovizioso and falling to fourth place. This meant that the title would be decided at the last round in Valencia. Márquez led the race from pole position in Valencia but narrowly avoided crashing at the first turn with a dramatic save, forcing him to drop to 5th position. However, in another dramatic turn of events, Dovizioso then crashed moments later at the 8th turn, which immediately handed the title to Marquez for the 2017 season. The Moto GP Champion 2017 Marc Marquez claimed his 6th world title.
